About This Drill

Two different skills, same 66 connectors. Function Sorting tells you which relationship the missing connector needs to express, then gives you four real connectors — one of that category, three from others — and you tap the one that's actually it. Register Discrimination assumes you already know the relationship and tests something narrower: whether you reach for the connector that actually fits how formal or casual the sentence is, not just one that's technically correct.

Each connector has 3 example sentences. One is real, native-sourced content; the other two were written to give each connector more practice variety, matched to its real register and category. None of it was written to teach the connector for the first time — if a connector on this page is new to you, this isn't the place to meet it.
